When fully installed, the MircoMount Extreme Range traffic
signal preemption transmitter is designed to operate
within several different modes of operation. The information
below describes each mode, for complete installation
information refer to Wiring
Diagrams.
Normal Operating Mode - With a properly
located and installed strobe emitter (see
Strobe Emitter Recommendations) and a properly operating
traffic signal preemption receiver (loacted on the traffic
signal), Normal Operating Mode will provide an average
operating distance of 1800 feet or more. When the Normal
mode is active, the diagnostic lamp with be continuously
illuminated.
Extreme Range Mode - With a properly
located and installed strobe emitter (see
Strobe Emitter Recommendations) and a properly operating
traffic signal preemption receiver (loacted on the traffic
signal), Exreme Range Mode will provide an average operating
distance of 2500 feet or more. If the unit is already
in Normal operating mode and a second switch is used
to select the Extreme Range Mode, the Extreme Range Mode
will over ride the Normal Operating Mode. When the Extreme
Range Mode is active, the diagnostic lamp with be continuously
illuminated.
Disable Mode - When either the Extreme
Range or Normal Operating Mode is selected, and one of
the disable inputs has been activated, the strobe emitter
output is disabled. This prevents a parked and/or unoccupied
vehicle from locking up traffic signal controlled intersections.
When the Disable Mode is active and no problems with
the MicroMount or the strobe emitter have been detected,
the diagnostic lamp will flash approximately once per
second. If a problem with the MicroMount or strobe emitter
has been detected, the diagnostic lamp will flash specific
sequence codes (see
Self Diagnostic Codes for more information.)
Diagnostic Mode - This mode only fuctions
when the yellow wire (see
Wiring Diagrams) on the MicroMount's wiring harness
is connected to a lamp, either an illuminated toggle
or rocker switch lamp, or a separate panel mounted lamp.
When the unit is placed in the Disable Mode, the Diagnostic
lamp will flash specific sequences if any failures or
problems are detected (see
Self Diagnostic Codes for more information). If a
parking brake switch or transmission switch is not used
to place the MicroMount in the Disable Mode, a separate
switch can be installed to either Disable inputs (see
Individual Wire Identification) in order to place
the MicroMount in Diagnostic Mode.
High Temperature Disable Mode - The
MicroMount Extreme Range has internal temperature sensing
capabilities that permit timing compensation to guarantee
that the strobe emitter "frequency of operation"
is always within the tight tolerance of the traffic signal
mounted preemption receivers. Should the unit be exposed
to extreme operating temperatures, the thermal sensor
will shut down the unit to prevent operational failure.
If the unit enters this mode, the vehicle operator is
alerted by the diagnostic lamp flashng at a high rate
of speed. Once the unit has cooled below the pre-set
temperaure threshold, the unit will again operate in
the mode selected.
